Hi,
who else did run the Human Race in Istanbul on Sunday & what do you think about the race?
I did run(as preparation for marathon beginning October) but must say the organisation sucked big time. Arrived at Taksim for shuttle bus almost 1,5 hours before race start, no buses available! Also no Nike staff to give information to many confused participants. Had to share a taxi with 3 other runners (Nike brings people 2gether! Way back from Turkcell arena was the same crap :-()
Next shock at starting area: total chaos, only six toilets for thousands of runners and a way too small warm-up/waiting zone. Who plannned this event?
Later I wondered why I had registered for a starting group (green in my case) as these groups where totally irrelevant, so I started locked in a huge group of first-timers. Ergo zig-zagging the first 1,5 km. Well, my time says it all....
Besides, for non-turkish runners (and there must have been a lot interested in a cosmopolitan city as Istanbul) no information available in English at all, neiher in print nor pa's. Nike = global company?
Also saw quite some novice runners collapsing at the various uphill sections of the track. Compared with e.g. Munich (winner with overall record-time), Istanbul was nothing for the faint-hearted ;-)
Conclusion: Great crossing the bridge but if you're interested in a well-prepared competition (in order to test yourself) and to run a good 10k time you better run somewhere else.
